The Beginnings of Z+t.

Art is life. And I don’t say that lightly or in a facebook meme way. I mean it in the “I don’t know life without art being central and to remove is to not know who I am” way. If you ask my family, they will tell you that it was about time that I officially started this journey. They will regale you with tales of me preferring painting the wall of my bedroom over leaving the house and hanging out. They will tell you about how they called me The Black Martha Stewart. If there was something to art, I’d figure out a way to get to it.

Enter Motherhood. I have two daughters who inspired the name Z+t. The older is my big one. Larger than life with an exuberant spirit. My warrior girl. My Amazonian. The younger is dainty and diminutive. She’s always been this tiny whisper of a child and embodies all things fairy. My Tink. Through parenting, I found it integral to experiment and hone skills to enrich their lives with activities, crafts, and, what dominates the year, their parties. It was from there that the idea occurred to me to think about making crafting a business. My mom always said, “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. Let’s put that to the test.

There are many in this field. A lot of stay-at-home parents turned craft bloggers/business owners. There is room for all because we all have our own uniqueness that we supply to the world. I am no different. As I mentioned, Parenting set me on a path of self-acknowledgement and discovery. My parenting is very conscious and deliberate. Revolutionary. How do I teach them to believe in themselves without doing so myself. Z+t will be a first step onto the path of showing others what my soul looks like. It may not always be pretty, but it will always be me. On this path, I hope to lose the moniker of The Black Martha Stewart and let my name stand on its own feet. Welcome to my world.
